PT. 1 headlights

The first part of the audiovisual story of my debut album, "as it is," released Nov. 15th, 2024. The album circulates around stories of grief and transformation and was recorded primarily to tape, inspiring the rawness of this project and the decision to film the majority of this project on 16mm. "Headlights," in its entirety, is a song about discovery and change; following my move to Austin in 2016. This iteration follows a journey of self-realization in the new world I found myself in during my year in Barcelona, Spain. There are the moments behind the wheel of my life and the times I find myself in the backseat, both moving down the road of my reality, not always sure where it leads.

The BIggest Part

I’m so tired of my fears; they steal my days from me and I want the biggest part of myself to exist beyond what is internal, so I learn to quiet the noise. I learn to take the world as it is, these songs just as they are. So many of these songs contemplate time and the way we choose to spend it. “The Biggest Part,” is about the world that is all my own, the one I make space for in my solitude, often I find myself there alone in the car on a long drive. The moments I zoom out to see myself driving across the landscape and can be present with the journey, not focused on where it is I left or where exactly I am going.

Somewhere far

The final chapter of this audio-visual journey ends with my song, “somewhere far,” an ode to the people on either side of the veil that call us home and protect us on this journey. I learn to take the world as it is, these songs just as they are. There are new shadows now; there is more to grieve and even more to be gained as I learn the depth of my love. Years ago, I had a dream that I was falling from the sky and into the ocean. As I fell towards an endless expanse of darkness, a pool of blue appeared beneath me. Some day, I too will meet the darkness and, somewhere far, I too will land gently in a peaceful sea.

Filmed in Barcelona, Spain, in the spring of 2024 with Drone and 16MM film with ARRI SR3 Kodak 250D. Shot with Zeiss Distagon super speed kit.
